Biography

Jeniece Golbourne, mezzo-soprano, is a young American opera singer. Golbourne has sung the dramatic mezzo-soprano repertoire throughout Europe and the United States. Known for her dramatic intensity and charm, wide range, rich, distinctive tone and power, she has been compared to the great dramatic soprano’s and mezzo’s of generations past. Her remarkable top extension and resonant lows has let her enjoy¬† the passionate and often underplayed moments of Verdi’s mezzo-soprano repertoire. One of her most celebrated roles is Azucena in Il Trovatore for which she made her European debut at Hessisches Staatstheater Wiesbaden. In addition to the role of Azucena, Golbourne is well known for her portrayals of Amneris and Ulrica (in Verdi’s Aida and Un ballo in maschera respectively). Golbourne has also performed in other Verdi roles, including Federica in Luisa Miller, Maddalena in Rigoletto and Quickly in Falstaff. She has also appeared as Santuzza in Cavalleria Rusticana, La Zia Principessa in Suor Angelica, Dalila in Samson et Dalila and the title role of Carmen. With an ear for the modern, Golbourne has also extended herself in more contemporary works as in Floyd’s The Passion of Jonathan Wade. She has sung with such companies as Staatsoper Stuttgart, Salzburger Landestheater, Theater Dessau, Croatia National Theater, Opera Santa Barbara, and Latvia National Opera.
